About the event
Portrait Drawing: From Life & Photos
Learn to draw portraits with greater confidence, accuracy, and expression in this hands-on portrait class exploring two essential ways of working: from life and from photographic reference.
Students will work from a live model as well as photographs, learning how to observe the structure of the head, establish accurate proportions, simplify complex features, create convincing form through light and shadow, and capture the character of the person rather than simply copying what they see.
Throughout the class, we’ll explore how drawing from life differs from drawing from a photograph—and how the skills developed through direct observation can make your photo-based portraits stronger, more dimensional, and more expressive.
Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual feedback, students will develop a practical approach they can continue using for future portraits.
Beginner-friendly, with plenty to explore for artists looking to strengthen their portrait drawing skills.
